VMsources has created a Virtual Appliance in OVA format, following Veeam Best Practices as nearly as possible for a Virtual Machine, making it easy for anybody to mount an iSCSI LUN as a Veeam Hardened / Immutable Repository. Not everybody is fond of Linux or the CLI, so we have created an OVA Virtual Appliance based on Ubuntu 22.04LTS server, with all of the requirements baked-in. Then documented the step-by-step instructions to getting Veeam Immutable Backups working with a Hardened Repository.
Updated to Ubuntu 22.04LTS on 10/25/2022
NTP is configured
User accounts (with passwords) for root and vbruser (yes, root is enabled, but we'll disable it after we're finished!)
Netplan configuration is ready-to-go (template for you to use)
Mount point for repository is created and correct ownership assigned
iSCSI and open-vm-tools installed
PLEASE NOTE: This Virtual Appliance is provided without warranty of any kind. You must change the passwords to very strong, disable SSH, and the VM must run on secure, firewalled networks in order for any of this to amount to a hill of beans.
